Maharajas Express

History

Maharaja Express became the venture of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) and Cox and Kings India Ltd. Together they formed Royale Indian Rail Tours Ltd. (RIRTL) that handled management of the Maharaja Express in March 2010. However, the venture was terminated on 12 August 2011 and this luxury train in India came under IRCTC. Since 2011, the Maharaja Express has been running successfully in India.

Cabins

The Maharajas Express has a total of 14 guest carriages which have got its names after various precious stones such as Moti (Pearl), Heera (diamond), Neelam (Blue Sapphire), Feeroza (Turquoise), Monga (Coral), Pukhraj (Sapphire) and so on. In these carriages are fitted luxury cabins that are segregated in four categories - Deluxe Cabin, Junior Suite, Suite and Presidential Suite. Out of these, the Presidential Suite, called Navratna spreads itself in an entire carriage is inclusive of two bedrooms, a separate living area, a dining room and a modern private bathroom with a bath tub. These cabins and suites have the capacity of accommodating 88 guests.

The tasteful and royal décor has taken its inspiration from the carriages of the erstwhile royalty of the country which is unmatched for. The cabins are adorned with rich tapestry, linen, upholstery, wall-to-wall carpeting, semi-precious stones and antiques. During your journey, enjoy the beautiful scenery whizzing by from the huge panoramic windows. While having a traditional royal décor, the spacious cabins offer every modern-day facility at par with the International standards. Every cabin is well-appointed with services and amenities like LCD TV, Direct Dial Telephone, choice of twin or king-size bed, Channel music, electronic safety deposit, private bathrooms with plus toiletries, DVD players and much more.

Dining

On-board the luxurious Maharajas’ Express, we welcome you to dine in two fine dining multi-cuisine restaurants, ‘MayurMahal’ and ‘Rang Mahal’ which cater to international palette in vibrant yet soothing ambience. ‘MayurMahal’ is named after India’s very own graceful national bird peacock and ‘Rang Mahal’ which literally means ‘The Palace of Colors’ is embellished with hand painted fresco ceiling. The suavely furnished interiors have been designed taking care of the comfort and space requirements of the guests.

Each of the two fine dining restaurants has a seating capacity of 42 guests. Enjoy exotic meals in pairs or on larger tables in groups of four. The chefs at Maharajas’ Express shall treat you to a varied range of eclectic Indian & International cuisine. Table d’hote meals are included in your fare. Choose a suitable paring of wine from our extensive collection of wines. Enjoy a hearty breakfast to kick start the day in style.
